    Richard Earl Baughman, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, June 12, 2010. The funeral is at 2 p.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation continues at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

    Mae R. Campbell, 78, of Muldraugh, died Friday, June 11, 2010. The funeral is at 11 a.m. EDT today at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff, followed by burial. Visitation continues at 8 a.m. today at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home in Brandenburg.

    The city heard the first reading of an ordinance amending rules and regulations at city parks and Saunders Spring Nature Preserve to allow for designated smoking areas.

    An ordinance banning tobacco in these areas was defeated, 4-2, last week at a called meeting, but some council members expressed interest in establishing designated smoking areas.

  • FEMA sets up temporary office in Etown

    A local government office opened Tuesday morning to give face-to-face assistance to those impacted by spring storms.

    The Federal Emergency Management Agency has opened a temporary disaster assistance office in Elizabethtown to serve those affected by flooding that hit the area in May.

    The Elizabethtown office is at the Emergency Services Center on Rineyville Road. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday. The deadline to apply for assistance is July 12.

    Dorothy Sue Hill

    Dorothy Sue Hill, 62, of Hodgenville, passed away Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    She was a member of Open Door Assembly Church in Elizabethtown.

    Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Dorothy Wiseman Townsend; and her stepmother, Evelyn Townsend Shultz.

    The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour will hit the water in a new way when the world’s top professional wakeboarders return to Elizabethtown on Friday and Saturday to compete at the third stop of the 2010 season.

    The 19-year-old tour revamped its format and added a few new surprises to combine action and entertainment into the ultimate wakeboard party. The new format will debut in Elizabethtown on the waters of Freeman Lake at Freeman Lake Park.
