HARDIN COUNTY — A retired Hardin County Schools teacher is being remembered as an inspiration to many.

Terry Lee Showers, 62, of Elizabethtown, died Wednesday at his home. Showers was a retired teacher and Realtor. His funeral is at 11 a.m. today at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Many remember Showers’ strength in the face of adversity, after a 1972 hunting accident blinded him.

Fred Campbell

Fred Campbell, 65, of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow.

He was a member of Tom’s Creek Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Pike County Coal Co.

He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Campbell; and three brothers, Larry, Stevie and Richard Campbell.

ELIZABETHTOWN – As dozens of Elizabethtown residents gathered  Thursday night in Pritchard Community Center for an Ax the Tax Rally, they were surrounded with glowing blue signs embroidered with rectangular white trim, proclaiming the simple slogan “Ax the Food Tax.” Some of the signs featured tiny red axes around the edges to further visualize the point.

BRANDENBURG — A Rineyville woman involved in a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian along Ky. 144 in March declined a plea deal Wednesday in Meade District Court. An Oct. 17 jury trial date was set.

Carman Stevens, 38, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident on Ky. 144 where she is said to have struck and killed Bardstown resident Billy Jo Webb.

Webb was walking on Ky. 144 after leaving her family during an argument at a Flaherty tavern when the collision occurred, according to her mother, Carolyn Hicks.
