ELIZABETHTOWN – Child Protective Services investigated claims of neglect and abuse regarding 6-year-old Mar’riel Lucas in May 2007, but as stated in a letter the agency sent to Antwan Hayes in June, the claims were “unsubstantiated.”

Mar’riel died three months later. A medical examiner testified Wednesday that his death was the result of more than 38 blunt force injuries inflicted upon him.
