    Dr. Paul Stephen Armstrong, 61, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, July 26, 2008. A memorial service is at noon today at Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to noon today at the church. Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Carl Leonard Gardner, 67, of Radcliff, died Sunday, July 27, 2008. The funeral is at 11 a.m.

    Silas Abraham Coffman

    Silas Abraham Coffman, 70, of Hodgenville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    He was a retired electrician for Tampa General Hospital in Florida, a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, an Army veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Phoebe Cornelious Fields Coffman; a sister, Helen Tooley; and a brother, Raymond Coffman.

    Rilla Gola Cox

    Rilla Gola Cox, 71, of Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Pennsylvania.

    She was a native of Hardin County and enjoyed reading and writing.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Almon and Lula Mae Terry Cox; and two brothers, Louie and Amos Cox.

    Survivors include a sister, Joyce Reed of Maryland; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Deana McKindrick.

    Services will be private with burial in Jeffries Cemetery.

  • Metal scrappers hit car lot

    ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown police are hoping the public can help solve the thefts of seven catalytic converters removed from new SUVs on a local dealership’s back lot.

    EPD Detective Clinton Turner said catalytic converters were removed from seven 2008 Ford Escapes owned by Bob Swope Ford at 1307 N. Dixie Ave. in Elizabethtown.

    The theft was reported by the dealership Monday afternoon, but it’s unclear when the removal of the converters took place.

    Catalytic converters contain precious metals that can be recycled, Turner said.

  • UK QB pays fine in Hardin Court

    ELIZABETHTOWN — University of Kentucky quarterback Curtis Pulley disposed of two of three traffic charges brought against him last week after having his license reinstated and paying a fine Wednesday for speeding 16 miles over the limit in Hardin District Court.

    Kentucky State Police stopped the athlete July 22 and charged him with driving on a suspended license, speeding and possessing expired vehicle registration.

    The free seminars at the ECTC campus Thursday will address an array of topics — from education to emotional well-being.
