    Walter Gene Powell

    Walter Gene Powell, 76, of Cecilia, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at his residence.

    He was a native of Breckinridge County, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. He ran Powell’s Service Station in Vertrees.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ora Pierce Powell, and a grandchild.

  • Larsens announce birth of daughter

     

    Alex and Leah Larsen of Flaherty announce the birth of their daughter, Reese Leighton Larsen, on Jan. 3, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Harry and Barbara Maphis of Radcliff, and paternal grandparents are Margie and Ted Malechek of Elizabethtown and the late Gale Larsen.

    Great-grandparents are Janette Maphis of Radcliff and Margaret and Bob LeClaire of Saranac, N.Y.

     

  • Club presents book to library

     

      On behalf of the Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown, club member Renu Shah presented the book “Peace,” written by her friend, Swamiji Chidanand Saraswati, to the Hardin County Public Library.     Wheelers celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Clyde and Jeannette Wheeler will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 6 p.m., June 21, 2009, at the home of Louis Wheeler, 171 Weldon Loop Road, Upton.

    They were married June 20, 1959.

    They have five children, Lanny, Danny, Louis, Steve and Lonia; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • Henson graduates from Warrior Transition Course

    HENSON. Army Pvt. 1st Class Roger P. Henson has completed the Warrior Transition Course at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. A 1979 graduate of Fort Knox High School, he received an associate degree in 2000 from Southern California International College in Van Nuys, Calif.

  • Woman’s Club holds reception for new library director

    The Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown assisted the Hardin County Public Library Reception Committee with a welcome reception for new library director Dr. Thom Cummins. The Garden Club of Elizabethtown, Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown and Hardin County Homemakers Council provided flower arrangements, refreshments and served those attending the reception. Dr. Cummins shared some of his background and his vision for his service here.
