    A Fiscal Court veteran finds himself face to face with a political newcomer in District 6, but both feel ready for the role of magistrate.

    Democrat Tom Jaggers captured his party’s nomination, while former educator E.G. Thompson won the Republican bid.

  • Shooting suspects still wanted



    Police have identified one of two men who remain at-large after a drug-related shootout on U.S. 31W in Elizabethtown last week.

    A Cadillac, occupied by two men from Louisville, and a white Chevy Impala, occupied by a man from Detroit, Mich., darted from the scene near Swope Chrysler Dodge after shots were fired from both cars.

    Elizabethtown police trailed the Cadillac into Radcliff where its occupants bailed out near an apartment complex.

  • For Duvall, Emary it's on to November



    The race for mayor of Radcliff heads to the Nov. 2 general election, even though nearly 2,100 voters cast ballots on Tuesday.

    Three names appeared on the ballot — J.J. Duvall, Jo Emary and Aundra Lett Jackson — when voters went to the polls. Jackson, however, pulled out of the race in early April, so with only two candidates, there was no need for a primary election.

  • The Art of Performance: Body stress reduces performance


    My last two columns focused on two components of the Thought Performance Interaction: thoughts and emotions. This column will focus on the last of the three components, physiology, or the changes which happen to the body when performing under stress.

    The easiest change to see is anxiety, which can affect the body significantly. Most people would describe a physiological change caused by anxiety in the following ways:

  • Brandenburg seeks AG's opinion on failed motion



    Last week’s tussle over a failed motion to increase funding for Wesley Hilltop House has led Commissioner Bill Brandenburg to ask for a delay on a first reading of the county’s budget until the first voting meeting in June.

    He also is seeking a second opinion on the controversial motion from the state attorney general’s office.

  • Proffitt, Broadway advance in Vine Grove mayor race



    The field in the Vine Grove mayor’s race is down to two.

    Three-term city councilman Blake Proffitt led all vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary by getting 386 votes to outdistance second-place finisher Donna Broadway by 62 votes. Chris Canaday was third with 90 votes.

    Proffitt, a business owner, will meet Broadway, the city’s events coordinator and grant writer, head to head in the Nov. 2 general election.
