Lonnie Edward Hayes Sr.

Lonnie Edward Hayes Sr., 72, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

A native of Spring Lick, he was a retired tile setter of 40 years and a member Fairfield Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Norita Hayes; three sons, Rocky, Gary and Eddie Hayes; a daughter, Tammy Hayes Spencer; a sister, Bertha Elder; and three brothers, Frank, Herbert and Leaston Hayes.

HODGENVILLE — With all the buzz surrounding Abraham Lincoln’s bicentennial birthday celebration, the birthplace park and boyhood home reported an increase in visitation of about 16 percent during the first six months of 2008, compared to the same period last year.

The local sites are two of eight signature Lincoln locales across the state that have seen a boost in popularity, according to the Kentucky Historical Society.

ELIZABETHTOWN — Sirens still out

of commission

When emergency sirens are tested today, only seven of the city’s 11 are expected to function correctly.

Four others still await replacement parts for what thieves took during the past month in an apparent plot to sell metals contained in those parts. Two of the sirens already have been repaired.

Copper wiring was among the items removed.

Dorothy Dean Morgan, 89, of Brandenburg, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008. The funeral is at 5 p.m. today at Ekron Baptist Church with burial in Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation continues at 2 p.m. today at Coffey & Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove.
