  • Four area graduates earn elite honor

    HARDIN COUNTY — Four area high school graduates received National Merit Scholarships sponsored by the colleges and universities they plan to attend.

    Alex Meredith, a Central Hardin High School graduate, plans to attend the University of Louisville to pursue a degree in engineering. Meredith received a full ride from U of L for being a National Merit finalist, along with the smaller National Merit Scholarship, financed by U of L.

          Vivian Elizabeth Nett Ash

    Vivian Elizabeth Nett Ash, 100, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

    She was retired from Bussman and a member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church.

    We in Hardin County are generally more fortunate than those who live in larger cities. For the most part our residents are somewhat considerate of our less fortunate neighbors and those who need a little extra help. This is one of the reasons our community is a great place to live and work.

    However, when large corporations such as McDonald's refuse to obey our state laws it is time to speak out and remind them that they are guests in our community and are not only expected but required to obey our laws.

  • Trash bills going up in rural parts of county

    HARDIN COUNTY — Hardin County residents could see a slight increase in their trash collection bills this fall.

    The county collected five bids on a new contract for the county’s trash collection, which will take effect Oct. 1.

    Erin Suzanne Sears of Vine Grove and Jeffrey Lee Brangers of Lawrenceburg were married May 9, 2008 at St. Christopher Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Cousens. The bride is the daughter of Dean and Susan Sears of Vine Grove, and the groom is the son of Freddie and Caroline Brangers of Rineyville. The bride was given in marriage by her parents.

  • Strip search claim lands in federal court

    LOUISVILLE — A civil rights claim against Hardin County Schools and the city of Vine Grove stemming from an alleged search of a Brown Street Alternative Education Center student last year now is being heard by a U.S. District Court judge after first being filed in Hardin Circuit Court earlier this year.

    HARDIN COUNTY — Earlier this year, the Army requested a proposal to privatize water operations at Fort Knox in accordance with a directive issued years ago by the Pentagon to phase out nonmilitary functions on its installations around the country.
