  • The game gets back to business

    Flash back to Jan. 15, 1967. It was a monumental day in American sports history and in the social heartbeat of the U.S. While at that time we may not have imagined the significance of the day or the event, nonetheless many of us watched it on our TV sets in black and white. It was the first world championship, contested between the American Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers. The Packers defeated the Chiefs 36-10 to claim the title of world champion.

  • Cheerleaders compete in 5th Region KAPOS

    Local high school cheerleading squads — North Hardin, Central Hardin, John Hardin, Elizabethtown and LaRue County — competed in the 5th Region KAPOS competition Jan. 30 at Central Hardin High School with the winners advancing to the state competition at Western Kentucky University on Feb. 19.

  • Osborne celebrates 90th birthday

    Bernard J. Osborne of Rineyville will celebrate his 90th birthday on Feb. 13, 2011.

    He has been married to Wyla Mae Osborne for more than 63 years. He is a World War II veteran and was a partner of Osborne Brothers Quarry.

    He has two daughters, Pam Kentfield of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Kathy Smith of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

    Charlie and Cissy Harper of Vine Grove announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Abby Harper, to Daniel Tabb, son of Kenny and Liz Tabb of Elizabethtown.

    The wedding is Feb. 12, 2011, at St. Brigid Church in Vine Gorve with a reception to follow at The Knights of Columbus Hall in Vine Grove.

  • Parents welcome Madysen Cheyenne

    Cera and Cody Smith of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Madysen Cheyenne Smith, on Dec. 27, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. She weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Grandparents are James and Tina Birch of Rineyville and Gary and Sandy Smith of Elizabethtown.

    Great-grandparents are Charles and Bonnie Spradlin of Prestonsburg, Joyce Birch of Greenup, Sandra Smith of Leitchfield and Wayne Kappel of Nelson County.

    CHURCH NEWS. On Feb. 13, Unity Baptist Church will have a fellowship meal after the 11 a.m. service. The meal is potluck with the church providing meat and drinks. The men have been asked to bring the desserts.

    Today, Feb. 6, Center Point Baptist Church congregation will hold its 11 a.m. service at Upton Community Center. They still are undergoing remodeling at their church near White Mills.
