  • GOLF: Grant Hinton finishes 33rd at State Am (06/10)

    Former Elizabethtown High School golfer Grant Hinton ended the Appalachian Wireless Kentucky State Amateur with his best round Thursday afternoon.

    Hinton carded a 1-over par 73 in the final round at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington. He finished in a five-way tie for 33rd with a three-day total of 223.

    Garrett Hinton, meanwhile, finished in a 10-way tie for 43rd after a 73. He finished two shots behind Grant.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin starts fast, cruises by North Laurel (06/10)

    OWENSBORO Central Hardin made itself at home early Thursday, while North Laurel looked bewildered at Jack Fisher Park despite the Lady Jaguars’ immense state tournament experience.

    Central Hardin jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the 13th Region champions and cruised to a 10-2 win as the No. 11 Lady Bruins won a first-round game at State for the first time in three tries.

  • Children's Fair on tap for Saturday

    Fun at Freeman Lake isn’t over yet, as the smallest members of the community have an event all their own this weekend.

    The 16th annual Children’s Fair hosted by the Heart of Kentucky Realtors, WQXE and WULF is from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the George Searle Pavilion at Freeman Lake Park.

    The free fair, for children ages 1 to 12, offers games, bounce houses, prizes, a fire engine, police cars and Hardin Memorial Hospital’s Wellness on Wheels, said Jennifer Meyers, an account executive for WQXE and WULF.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Goodman only unbeaten coach at State (06/09)

    The Central Hardin Lady Bruins have something – check that, someone – that no other team at the KHSAA Softball State Tournament can offer: an unbeaten coach.

    Since taking over for Mark Martin in the final week of the regular season, interim coach Jamie Goodman is 6-0.

    Goodman will try to make it 7-0 at 6 p.m. today as the No. 11 Lady Bruins (34-4) take on the No. 13 North Laurel Lady Jaguars (25-12) at Owensboro’s Jack Fisher Park.

    No pressure on him, right?
