  • Grandparents welcome Carson Royce


    Jim and Ruth Cobbett of Elizabethtown announce the birth of their first grandchild, Carson Royce Raleigh, born on March 21, 2010. He weighed 9 pounds, 20 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long.

    Parents are Michele Lawson Raleigh and Royce Raleigh of Louisville.

  • McGuffins celebrate 50th wedding anniversary


    Farrel L. and Virginia L. Critchelow McGuffin will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from 2 to 5 p.m., June 26, 2010, with an informal reception given by their children at New Hope Community Church, 34 Dee St., Elizabethtown.

    The couple was married June 25, 1960 at Irvington Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Irvington.

    They have four children, Dennis McGuffin, Monica Cardin, Darrell McGuffin and Sandy Ringle.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    Doug and Sandy Preston of Grover Hill, Ohio, and Tommy and Lisa Wathen of Flaherty announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Lea Lynn Preston and Jacob Thomas Wathen.

    The bride-to-be is a 2001 graduate of Wayne Trace Junior/Senior High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of St. Francis. She is a registered nurse at Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance, Ohio.

    Jason and Kelly Parrent of Elizabethtown announce the birth of a daughter, Khloe Elizabeth Parrent, on April 16, 2010, in Elizabethtown. She weighed 6 pounds, 4 ½ ounces and was 19 ½ inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Lisa Kramer of Elizabethtown and Bob Kramer of Hodgenville. Paternal grandparents are Vickie Fischel of Elizabethtown and Joe Parrent of Mount Washington.

    Great-grandparents are Maggie Parrent of Bardstown and Earl Tubbs of Elizabethtown.

    Lindsey Duvall announces the birth of a sister, Addison Grace Duvall, on April 30, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds and was 20 inches long.

    Parents are Hylo and Javonica Duvall of Eastview.


  • Radcliff OKs park smoking areas



    With a vote to split a 3-3 deadlock Monday, Mayor Sheila Enyart helped Radcliff City Council approve designated smoking areas in city parks.

    The move brings the smoking debate full circle, but questions remain about the location of these smoking zones.

    The ordinance enacted Monday modified the park rules and regulations, allowing the city to identify and create designated smoking areas at parks with signs pointing smokers to the chosen zones.

    30 years ago, the Hardin County Public Library board decided to file suit against Hardin Fiscal Court, asking for more financial support; head librarian was Gayle Nickols. 20 years ago, the Elizabethtown Airport Board landed a new operator to take over the daily operations at Addington Field – Greg Moyers, president of Bluff City Aviation, was to expand his Missouri operation to Elizabethtown, beginning March 1.
