  • Child succumbs to wreck injuries



    A 5-month-old injured in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Hart County on May 28 has died, according to Kentucky State Police.

    The child, Preston Tichenor, was flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital around 8:30 a.m. on May 28 after the SUV he was riding south in crashed near the 68 mile-marker.

    Merle and Debbie Wells of Cecilia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Emily L. Wells, to Ryan R. Gray, son of Rick and Melissa Gray and Mona Curtis, all of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is a 2007 graduate of Central Hardin High School and a 2009 graduate of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. She is employed at Drs. Godfrey and Eklund.

    The prospective groom is a 2005 graduate of Elizabethtown High School. He is employed at Publisher’s Printing Company.

  • Indictments illustrate drugs, crime links



    Two-thirds of May indictments allege drug crimes, including a few tied to theft and sex offenses.

    The 35 felony indictments grand jurors returned to 9th Circuit Judge Ken Howard include charges of being under the influence; trafficking or being in possession of illicit drugs, alcohol, narcotic pharmaceuticals or a mix of the three.

    Donnie Smith and Brenda Baker Dockins were married on April 9, 2010, in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.

    The couple is planning a wedding trip to Mexico this summer.

    Kristen Elassen was the first honorable mention winner in the Hardin County Public Library Writer's Contest held recently.

    Devin Stapleton was the winner in the Pre-teen Category in the Hardin County Public Library Writer's Contest.

    Tony Sexton, president of the Kentucky State Poetry Society, addressed local writers at the Kentucky Writers Day workshops  at Hardin County Public Library, North Branch. 

    Tiffany Pavey was the winner in the Teen/Adult Category in the Hardin County Public Library Writer's Contest.

    Kentucky State Police and the Hardin County Sheriff's Office are conducting a joint investigation today into events leading up to a fatal multiple-vehicle crash at U.S. 31W and Ky. 313.

    According to KSP Post 4 spokesman Bruce Reeves, a sheriff's deputy was pursuing a suspected speeder westbound on Ky. 313 around 8 a.m. Sunday. The fleeing driver reached a top speed of 125 mph as he headed into one of the county's busiest intersections.

  • Couple appreciates ‘southern hospitality’ from local business

    On April 12, my husband and I left Harrodsburg to go to Kentucky Lake fishing for three weeks. I was driving our Trailblazer pulling the boat and he was driving our motor home. About eight miles from Elizabethtown on the Bluegrass Parkway, I developed problems with the Trailblazer and limped into Elizabethtown. We stopped at Skaggs RV to see if they could help. We were told that we would need to take the Trailblazer to a GM dealer, but we were welcome to park the boat and motor home there while we went to the dealer to get help.
