A program to keep students’ teeth in good shape puts smiles on the faces of volunteers as well.
The Rotary Smiles! program is in the process of screening all third-graders across Hardin County for possible oral health issues. Dentists, dental hygienists and other volunteers have been going to local elementary schools to check teeth and gums and refer students for further treatment, if necessary.
This is the fourth year of the program, which is patterned after a similar one in Jefferson County, coordinator Carol Belcher said.
