  • Mahannas celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

    William “Bill” and Alma Jones Mahanna celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 30, 2009.

    They were married April 30, 1949 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Flaherty.

    Mr. Mahanna is retired from civil service at Fort Knox with more than 40 years of government service.

    Mrs. Mahanna is a retired housewife.

    They have four children, Patti Tarvin, Sue Glackin, John Mahanna and Bob Mahanna; and seven grandchildren.

    McGuffins celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Jackie Leon and Alma Faye Noe McGuffin of Cecilia recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

    They were married on April 16, 1959 in Macon County, Tenn.

    Mr. McGuffin is retired from Houchens market after 44 years of service.

    Mrs. McGuffin working in the Hardin County Schools system and at Fort Knox. She enjoys cooking and helping those who have a need.

    They started the Christianaires Gospel Quartet in 1972 and spent 28 years singing and serving the Lord.

    Grandparents welcome Alden Keith Brown

    Edward and Frances Goodman of Cecilia announce the birth of a grandson, Alden Keith Brown, on March 24, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long.

    Parents are Keith and Donna.

    Older sister is Abigail.

     

  • Parents welcome Emma Claire

     

    Clay and Nikki Tanner of Vine Grove announce the birth of a daughter, Emma Claire, on Feb. 12, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Grandparents are Rex and Rita Tanner of Brandenburg and Charlie and Debbie Pike of Flaherty.

     

  • Simpson commissioned to Vance Air Force Base

    Simpson commissioned to Vance Air Force Base

    SIMPSON. Christopher James Simpson, 23, graduated May 9 from Eastern Kentucky University with a BS degree in aerospace management. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force and reported to Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma for pilot training.

    He was also the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Award from his AFROTC detachment at the University of Kentucky.

  • Scouts hold Flag Retirement ceremony

     

      Scout Pack 165 sponsored by Glendale Christian Church held a Flag Retirement ceremony recently to retire tattered and worn American flags with respectful honors.    

  • DAV visits veterans at Atria Assisted Living

     

      Members of the Disabled American Veteran’s visited with Veteran’s at Atria Assisted Living and provided a special flag ceremony in honor of Memorial Day.

  • East Hardin Class of ’74 to hold reunion

     

    The East Hardin High School Class of 1974 will hold its 35th reunion on Aug. 15. The class will have a shrimp boil from noon to 3 p.m. at Claudia’s Tea Room in Sonora. Cost is $25 per person which will cover the food and drink costs. There will be other food available for those who don’t like shrimp.
