    • The Elizabethtown City Council on Monday voted to accept a proposal from CMW, Inc. to head up the conceptual design phase of the Veterans Tribute Memorial Project at a cost of $28,800. The project has been slated for a 2012 opening in the proposed Elizabethtown Nature Park.

    HARDIN COUNTY — The weather in 2009 came out swinging but then pretty much gave local residents a breather.

    A January ice storm caused widespread power outages and sent people searching for a warm place to stay. Then, other than some high winds and bouts of heavy rain, things quieted down.

    By SUZANNE DARLAND I took my mom to Lakeland, Fla., for her annual migration south the beginning of December. She stays there until the end of March, venturing back when winter’s worst is over. While there I remembered why Christmas seems to sneak up on me every year.
