  • Annual Nolin RECC Co-op meeting is tonight

    Musical performances, speakers and informative programs will be a big part of the Nolin Rural Electric Cooperative Corp. 2011 co-op annual meeting at 5 p.m. today at John Hardin High School.   

    For musical entertainment, Kentucky native and rising Nashville star Clay Underwood will perform. At 6 p.m., artist and singer Rick Arnold takes the stage.

    For children, there are free balloon fun houses and slides behind the school. Caricaturist Denny Whalen will be back.

    The Elizabethtown Tennis Commission’s Youth Tennis Tournament begins Saturday at the University Park Drive Tennis Courts.

  • YOUTH SWIMMING: Summer Classic runs through Sunday at ESFC (06/10)

    The Elizabethtown Summer Classic kicks off what will be an action-packed summer for the Elizabethtown-based Dolphin Swim Team.

    The Summer Classic starts at 5 p.m. today and concludes Sunday evening at the E’town Swim & Fitness Center.

    In all, nearly 500 swimmers will be in town this weekend competing in the three-day event. The Dolphins are expected to have 70 swimmers – 42 girls and 28 boys – competing. Louisville-based Cardinal Aquatics is bringing 87 – 60 girls and 27 boys.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin needs to get defensive about Game 2 at State (06/10)

    OWENSBORO The Central Hardin Lady Bruins have been successful this year because of their experienced and high-scoring offense, solid pitching and usually sure-handed defense.

    The former two were great Thursday evening, but the latter wasn’t up to par in the No. 11 Lady Bruins’ 10-2 win over the No. 13 North Laurel Lady Jaguars in the first round of the KHSAA Softball State Tournament at Jack Fisher Park.

  • GOLF: Grant Hinton finishes 33rd at State Am (06/10)

    Former Elizabethtown High School golfer Grant Hinton ended the Appalachian Wireless Kentucky State Amateur with his best round Thursday afternoon.

    Hinton carded a 1-over par 73 in the final round at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington. He finished in a five-way tie for 33rd with a three-day total of 223.

    Garrett Hinton, meanwhile, finished in a 10-way tie for 43rd after a 73. He finished two shots behind Grant.

    For Natalie Greenwell, it’s been an intense, yet fun, all-star week.

    After five days of practices, scrimmages and team-bonding, the recent Elizabethtown High School graduate thinks she’s starting to understand what it means to be a Kentucky All-Star.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin starts fast, cruises by North Laurel (06/10)

    OWENSBORO Central Hardin made itself at home early Thursday, while North Laurel looked bewildered at Jack Fisher Park despite the Lady Jaguars’ immense state tournament experience.

    Central Hardin jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the 13th Region champions and cruised to a 10-2 win as the No. 11 Lady Bruins won a first-round game at State for the first time in three tries.
