  • Riggses celebrate 50th wedding anniversary


    Johnnie and Alta Riggs will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1 to 4 p.m. EST, Oct. 17, 2010, at the Upton Community Center on College Street in Upton.

    They were married Oct. 15, 1960.

    They have two sons, Travis and Marty.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

    Hobert L. Barnes

    Hobert L. Barnes, 63, of Eastview, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Woodland Terrace Health Care in Elizabethtown.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Gaines and Dorothy Hick Barnes.

    Those returning to Vine Grove Animal Refuge Center this weekend couldn’t help but notice  the facelift.

    “It looks very nice,” said Alan Homiak, a Cadiz resident who, with his wife, Lorie, has adopted a number of cats from the center over the years.

  • Development case headed to Court of Appeals



    Hardin Circuit Judge Ken Howard rejected an appeal by a group of residents in the Big Spring area who believe the Hardin County Planning and Development Commission acted egregiously in approving a conditional plat for a proposed subdivision being developed by Kentucky Land Co.

    The landowners are pursuing an appeal before the Kentucky Court of Appeals.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Fred and Karen Madriaga of Hodgenville and Lanny Crain of Maricopa, Ariz.

    The prospective groom is the son of Tom and Susan Carter of Elizabethtown and Michael and Kelly Barnes of Hodgenville.

    The wedding is at 6 p.m., Oct. 16, 2010, at Bardstown Entertainment & Expo Complex in Bardstown. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
