    Laura Stewart and Craig Bell announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Carl Jr. and Lola Stewart of Millwood. She is a certified surgical technologist and first assistant at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

    The prospective groom is the son of Tommy and Frankie Bell of Hodgenville. He is the owner of Craig Bell Electric in Hodgenville.

    The wedding is May 31, 2013, at Pleasant Valley United Baptist Church.

    The stork was kept busy last week, delivering a sweet little girl to Elizabethtown on May 8 to the College Heights United Methodist Church Youth Minister Joe and Andrea Bennett. Sydney was welcomed home by her 2-year-old brother, William.

    On May 9, he took a precious little boy to Bowling Green to my grandson, Brock and Ashley Barnes. Blake was welcomed home by his big brother, 3-year-old Brody.

    Congratulations to both families and wishing them the best in all things.

  • On track to graduate, Jarvis proves the odds wrong

    California did not work out well for Tim Jarvis.

    His sophomore year of high school resulted in only two credits to carry forward into the next year. He felt the teachers did not really care whether he succeeded, he said. With a significant amount of gang activity in the school, teachers were frightened of the students. And when he would see blood splattered across the walls of the bathrooms, he was frightened, too.

    “I kind of shut down,” he said. “I just lost hope.”

  • Hardin County says 'Hooray' for its heroes

    The sacrifice of military families was recognized this weekend by the Hardin County community.

    Hooray for Heroes marched on Saturday under cloudy skies. The lack of sun didn’t deter families from enjoying the event staged between Stithton Baptist Church and Wal-Mart in Radcliff, which serves as a celebration and thank-you to military members, first responders and their families.

    The event included live entertainment, horseback rides, bounce houses for children and free food for military members and first responders.

  • LaRue principal to lead Garrard County schools

    The principal of LaRue County High School is moving on this summer to lead a district.

    Paul Mullins was selected as the next superintendent for Garrard County Schools. His selection was announced Thursday by the Garrard County Board of Education.

    Mullins considered leading a school district a personal goal and Garrard County was a good fit, he said.

    The school district’s size is similar to LaRue County Schools. Mullins said he feels he has experiences that could help the district.
