    Laura Jane McClure Hudson, 89, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010. The funeral is at 11 a.m. today at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with burial in Hudson Cemetery. Visitation continues at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

    Ethel Louise McDonald, 90, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010. The graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Nov. 4, 2010, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

    There has been some discussion locally about Democratic Senate candidate Jack Conway and the request for relief from Obama health care. Conway says he supports the health care plan and would have voted for it, even though he has been requested to take action to relieve the people of our state from it.

    The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers are red-hot entering Thursday night’s showdown with 17th District rival Central Hardin for the top seed in the district tournament.

    Senior outside hitter Denisha Nichols had five kills and junior outside hitter Mary Beth Russell had three to lead the visiting Lady Panthers to their seventh straight win with a 25-22, 25-17 victory over 5th Region rival Marion County on Tuesday.

    The LaRue County Lady Hawks may have snapped a long losing skid to 18th District rival Green County earlier this season, but the Lady Dragons made sure they would get the No. 1 seed for the district tournament again.

    Green County locked up the top seed for the tournament with a 25-17, 25-20 win over visiting LaRue County on Monday night.

    Sophomore outside hitter Kara Paden paced LaRue County (19-4 overall, 5-1 district) with five kills and one ace, while senior outside hitter Brea Huhn had three kills and one ace.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Central Hardin to play at North Hardin on Thursday night (09/21)

    The Central Hardin-North Hardin football game has been moved to Thursday night to accommodate a television and Internet broadcast.

    Wazoo Sports, which has been producing live high school broadcasts since 2007, provided North Hardin an opportunity to earn revenue for its football program. For a $500 contribution to each school, Wazoo Sports acquired the rights to broadcast the Central Hardin-North Hardin game to be played at Ray Story Stadium in Radcliff.

    Kentucky State Police have been combing a residential property at 3651 Shepherdsville Road since 5 this morning in search of clues to what and who caused the deaths of two retired gynecologists.

    Dr. Margaret Buggeland, 76, and her husband, Dr. Terje R. Buggeland, 70, were found dead on the floor of their live-in adult son's bedroom shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday.

    A report from the Elizabethtown Tourism and Convention Bureau estimates the city has reaped nearly $1.4 million in economic impact from sporting events held in the city since May.

    The report is based on 15 sporting events taking place during a four-month period and impact is determined based on 2009 research conducted by the Kentucky Department of Tourism on visitor spending habits.

  • PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: White leads LaRue to victory (09/22)

    A pair of LaRue County seniors, Brent Gozzard and Andrew Skaggs, scored the first goals of their careers and senior Dylan White continued his offensive assault as the Hawks rolled to a 10-1 win Tuesday at the Kentucky School for the Deaf.

    White had three assists and two goals, giving him 16 goals and eight assists for the season. Senior Bo Haun, the Hawks’ usual goalkeeper, added two goals and an assist.
