  • Peters begins deployment

    PETERS. Navy Constructionman Rodney F. Peters, son of Dianne M. Hummel of Rineyville and Timmy Peters of Elizabethtown, recently began an almost five-month deployment to Afghanistan while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133, homeported at Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Miss. NMCB-133’s primary mission on deployment will be to provide construction support to improve the living and working quarters for the 30,000 troops needed in Afghanistan. Peters is a 2007 graduate of North Hardin High School in Radcliff and joined the Navy in June 2008.

    J.K. and Lucille Puckett will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a drop-in reception from 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 15, 2010, at Valley Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall.

    Mr. Puckett is a World War II veteran and is retired from Armor Creamery. He is a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church.

  • Walker celebrates 100th birthday


    Mary A. Walker of Elizabethtown will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sept. 8, 2010.

    Born in Shelbyville, she spent her early life in Lexington and Louisville, before moving to Elizabethtown in 1945 with her family. She is a member of the St. James parish, where she headed many fund-raising events over the years. She managed the St. James Cafeteria for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

    She was married to the late George F. Walker.
