  • Dec. 19, 2010 editorial: ECTC proactive in enrollment growth

That Elizabethtown Community and Technical College is in a growth spurt is something we have known for quite some time.
But now the steady growth is being recognized on a national scale and that is quite impressive.
The small school on the hill is growing, so much that ECTC is one of the fastest growing two-year colleges in the country.

  • A stubborn child and his Christmas mule

The holidays are a time to visit and enjoy the company of old friends.
One close acquaintance comes to mind each Christmas season. He’s always ready for a good time and displays a constant, warm grin beneath smiling blue eyes and chubby cheeks.
Our first meeting was uneventful, not much more than a passing glance. Who would have thought that weeks later, he would come to live in my house. I don’t remember all the circumstances because I was not quite 4. My parents shared the details as one of those oft-repeated family tales.

  • End of an era

Those who have worked with Elizabethtown Mayor David Willmoth over the years say he has little need for fanfare.
“David has never been one that looked for someone to sing his praises,” said Councilman Ron Thomas, a lifelong friend and colleague for more than 20 years.
Often, Willmoth faced the exact opposite reaction from residents, specifically in recent years concerning controversial topics such as the Elizabethtown Sports Park and implementation of a restaurant tax.

  • Mission accomplished: North JROTC delivers to those in need

Members of North Hardin High School’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps had an important mission Friday — to make Christmas a little more special for families in the community.
Despite icy conditions that closed school for the day, North Hardin JROTC and members of the Kentucky National Guard delivered 50 boxes of food to needy families in the Radcliff area.
This is the 18th year the JROTC program has distributed boxes of food. Retired Sgt. Maj. Paul Gray and volunteer Esta Pigg started the effort.

  • Chamber unification decision comes Tuesday

Members of the Radcliff Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday will decide the fate of a proposed merger of Hardin County’s four chambers.
The other three — Elizabethtown, Vine Grove and West Point — already have opted to unify into a single group, tentatively called the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce.
The executive committees of each chamber have approved the plan.

  • Knights deliver food, toys on morning rounds

As the sun rose behind a cloudy sky Saturday, pickup trucks filled the ice-covered parking lot outside the Knights of Columbus Hall in Vine Grove. Inside the hall, Knights and other volunteers gathered around tables covered with boxes filled with food waiting to be delivered to families who could use it in the Vine Grove, Radcliff, Rineyville and Flaherty area.
“We are delivering 124 baskets this year,” said David Micke, chairman and coordinator of the effort.
