  • Elevator repairs needed months before HMH accident



    ELIZABETHTOWN –  According to state safety inspection reports, one of the two problems related to the malfunction of unit 9, the car involved in last month’s elevator accident at Hardin Memorial Hospital, was supposed to have been fixed after an inspector discovered it in June.

  • 9/11 commemorations planned for Friday



    HARDIN COUNTY — Several local events are planned Friday to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which some say used to be more unifying and fresh in the national consciousness than it is now.

    While state Rep. Tim Moore said he doesn’t think local attitudes of the have changed much, “I think sadly at the national level there has been a kind of collective forgetfulness.”

  • HCS passes tax increase for new school year



    HARDIN COUNTY — Taxes in Hardin County Schools are going up after the board passed a new tax rate for the upcoming school year at a special board meeting Tuesday.

    The board approved a tax rate of 51.7 cents per $100 of real estate for the 2009-10 school year.
