    A Christmas poem

    Christmas will be here soon and at this time of year nothing is more important than the reason for the season.

    I have been writing for 13 years. All the people that I love and hold dear I have written about. My son, Jeremy Meredith; my grandson, Jeremy Gage Meredith; his sister, Ashley; my life; the Peters family; our trials, loves, heartbreaks and disappointments through the years.

    My eyes are open and my ears can hear. The cries of our world, its disappointments and fears.

  • Nov. 27 editorial: Time for a second opinion

    Following the recent failed motion to reclassify Elizabethtown as a second class city, the issue is again making headlines. Councilman Steve Atcher’s motion, seconded by Councilman Ron Thomas, was struck down by the city council by a 4-2 vote. The time for clearing and cleaning up discrepancy and disagreement regarding classification is long overdue.

    I visit Elizabethtown as often as I can. Sometimes it’s a luncheon with former classmates, other times it’s a summer concert out by the lake. Although it’s been years, I have participated in the downtown interactive walking play/tour of historical characters that connected with Elizabethtown throughout its history. The point being, not much reason to go downtown.

    In late November, I had a reason.

    Command Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) James Edward “Ed” Allen, 79, of Vine Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009. The funeral is at 2 p.m. today at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff with burial with military honors in North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff. Visitation continues at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

  • Vine Grove man charged with armed robbery



    VINE GROVE — A Vine Grove man was arrested and charged Friday in the armed robbery a Vine Grove restaurant.

    Joseph P. Hosler, 21, of North Hillcrest Drive, was arrested Friday after a witness identified him as the man who robbed the China House Restaurant on Crutcher Street on Thursday, according to a news release from the Vine Grove Police Department.

    I would like to briefly address your article Nov. 22 article, “City Considering Smoke Detector Ordinance.” It is my opinion that this law will unfairly target our poor and elderly.
