  • Allegro Dance Theatre students perform with 113th Army Band

          Ballet students from Allegro Dance Theatre performed at the Christmas concert of the 113th Army Band at Fort Knox. Intermediate and advanced ballet dancers performed selections from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” while the band played.

    GARVIN. Army Pvt. Nathaniel D. Garvin has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. A 2007 graduate of John Hardin High School in Radcliff, he is the son of Clifton Garvin of Elizabethtown.

    Austin Russell Koncal announces the birth of a brother, Ashton Scott Koncal-Clark, on Dec. 18, 2008, in Elizabethtown. He weighed 5 pounds, 13 ounces and was 18¼ inches long.

    Parents are Michele Lynn Hazelwood of Elizabethtown and Gregory Scott Clark Jr. of Glendale.

    Siblings also include Alexandria Lynn Hazelwood of Elizabethtown.

    Joseph Robert Grist, of Sharples, Bolton, England and Victoria Jacqueline Grundy, also of Bolton, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The prospective groom is the son of Rebecca Coakley of London, England, formerly of Elizabethtown, and Tony Grist of Oldham, England, and the grandson of Robert and Dorothy Coakley of Elizabethtown. He is a personal trainer and duty manager at a local leisure/fitness center.

To help 4-H celebrate this milestone, show your support for the organization throughout 2009. The Centennial Kickoff Party is scheduled for Feb.

  • Smith graduates from Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy

    SMITH. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Charles G. Smith has graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) Academy at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Fla.

    Smith, a combat arms supervisor with 11 years of military service, is assigned to the 6th Security Forces in MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

    He is the son of Linda Smith of Elizabethtown.

    The technical sergeant graduated in 1992 from Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown and received a bachelor’s degree in 2006 from St. Leo University in San Antonio, Fla.

    HENDRIX. Army Pvt. Phylisha A. Hendrix has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. A 2008 graduate of North Hardin High School, she is the daughter of Robin Hendrix of Radcliff.

  • Hardin County AM Rotary welcomes Bob Belknap as guest speaker

    Bob Belknap, Executive Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hardin/Larue Counties spoke to the Hardin County AM Rotary at their meeting on Jan. 15. He noted that 255 children in Hardin County were served last year and there are currently 68 children on the waiting list. He noted that 85 percent of their children are living in a single parent household, and 10 percent are being raised by their grandparents. They welcome teenagers and adults to volunteer to be a Big Brother or Big Sister.
