  • County opts to keep taxes at compensating rate



    Hardin Fiscal Court on Tuesday opted to hold the county’s real estate property tax rates equal to the compensating rate.

    The vote marks the second year in a row – and the second time ever — county officials have voted to hold the rate equal to or below the compensating rate, which is the rate that will produce the same amount of revenue as the prior year, excluding new property added.

  • Rumor of gun at West Hardin unfounded



    Hardin County Schools and Kentucky State Police investigated a rumor Monday of a gun at a school, but found the information to be unsubstantiated, according to an HCS news release.

    The school district learned Monday that there was a rumor on the social network Facebook that a West Hardin Middle School student might be bringing a gun to school Tuesday, according to the news release.

  • Siblings announce birth of sister


    Keelin Fischer of Elizabethtown and Jaide Plouvier of Hodgenville announce the birth of a sister, Rheygan Gina Plouvier, on March 20, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 8½ ounces.

    Parents are Jackie Fischer and Matthew Plouvier of Elizabethtown.

    Grandparents are Raymond Plouvier and Linda Plouvier of Elizabethtown and Michael Fischer and Janet Fischer of Radcliff.

    Great-grandparents are Catherine Brown of Hodgenville and Judith Snowberger of Reynolds, Ind.


  • Vine Grove student hopes for spot on game show



    While it’s not the typical format for school exams, Eli McDowell might need to prepare to give his answers in the form of a question.

    McDowell, a fifth-grader at Vine Grove Elementary School, is in the running for a spot on Kid Jeopardy! He is awaiting results of his August audition in Chicago.
