  • EHS class of 1980 to have 30th reunion

    There are only two weeks left until the Elizabethtown High School class of 1980 celebrates its 30th reunion. There are classmates from out-of-state to in state attending a but the committee hasn’t received payment for the meal. Final numbers are due Aug. 26.

    The cost is $40 person. Send a check, payable to Cathy Peake Wilson, along with the name(s) of those attending, a mailing address, telephone number and e-, mail address to: Reunion, P.O. Box 2512, Elizabethtown, KY 42702. 


  • Gen. Helm Honored During Ceremony

    Members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Gen. Ben Hardin Helm Camp No. 1703 of Elizabethtown held a memorial ceremony for Gen. Helm at the Helm Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Gen. Helm was killed in action during the Civil War at the battle of Chickamauga, Ga., in September 1863, and the members of the SCV honor his memory each September. Attending the ceremony on September 18 were Tim Walker, John R. Clark, Joey Oller and Geoff Walden.


  • McCurdy graduates from basic training


    MCCURDY. Air Force Airman 1st Class Taurie N. McCurdy graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2003 graduate of John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown, she is the daughter of Sandra McCurdy Radcliff.

    Beatrice Crume Ballard

    Mrs. Beatrice Crume Ballard, 95, passed away Thursday Sept. 23, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.  

    She was a native of Washington County, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.  

    She is preceded in death by her husband, James P. Ballard; her parents, Clarence and Judith Marshall Montgomery Royalty; a granddaughter, Michelle Brown; two brothers; and three sisters.

  • Houses to celebrate 60th wedding anniversary


    Ted and Josephine House will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today, Aug. 29, 2010, with their family.

    They were married on Aug. 29, 1950, in Elizabethtown by the Rev. Wilfrid Hayden.

    They have four sons, Barry, Gary, Eddie and Jeffrey House; one daughter, Joni House Webb; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

  • Martin to celebrate 100th birthday


    Verna Louise Martin, formerly of Cloverport, will celebrate her 100th birthday at 3 p.m. EST, Sept. 5, 2010, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation, 599 Rogersville Road in Radcliff.

    She was born Sept. 7, 1910, in Vine Grove.

    She operated The Twin’s Beauty Shop with her twin sister, Lucille, who died in March 2010.

    She is a member of Cloverport United Methodist Church.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.


  • Parkers celebrate 71st wedding anniversary


    Bernis and Olan Parker, formerly of Jonesville/Magnolia, celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on Aug. 12, 2010, at their home in Science Hill with dinner and cake shared by friends, neighbors and family.

    They were married in 1939 and were life-long residents of Hart County until poor health forced them to move to Pulaski County in October 2009.


  • Elizabethtown Rotary Club supports Living Waters of the World Project

    Guatemala native Miriam Mazariegos made a presentation of a miniature water jug to the Elizabethtown Rotary Club to represent her thanks to the club for its support of the Living Waters of the World project in Guatemala.     April Herdt and Kent Van Meter announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Joan and David Herdt of Elizabethtown.

    The prospective groom is the son of the late Glenn and Ethleen Van Meter.

    The wedding is Sept. 3, 2010, at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church in Eastview.
