  • Serving Breakfast With Mrs. Claus

    Blake Proffitt, Mayor Donovan Smith, Gary McCoy, Carolyn Canaday and Kathy Sisco had a wonderful time serving breakfast for several of the people who attended the many festivities Dec. 6 at Vine Grove’s Dickens of a Christmas.

    Mary Ann Foote Carpenter

    Mary Ann Foote Carpenter, 42, of Hodgenville, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Survivors include her husband, Dale Carpenter; a daughter, Jessica Stowers; a son, Scott Stowers; and her parents, Norman and Shirley Dooley Foote.

    The funeral is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barren Run Baptist Church. Cremation will follow the service.

  • NAACP to sponsor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Celebration

    President Hortensia Morgan with her birthday cake and appreciation gifts for holding the position as president of Hardin County Branch NAACP from 1999 to 2008. Her gifts were presented at the Dec. 9 general membership meeting.     Hardin County Branch, NAACP is hosting the 18th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Celebration/Lottie O.

  • Swartz named John Hardin High School Student of the Month

    The John Hardin High School Student of the Month for November, Joseph Swartz, was introduced to the Elizabethtown Lions Club at recent meeting. Joseph in on the Honor Roll, has perfect attendance and is a National Merit Scholar. He is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Ultimate Frisbee and the track and cross country teams, and he also does tutoring. He has been a Questbridge finalist and has helped with Operation Christmas Child.

    Lenard Banks Sr.

    Lenard Banks Sr., 56, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008. God reached his hand out and took Lenard home with him.

    Lenard was born on Aug. 26, 1952, to Leslie and Alice Banks in Brooklyn, N.Y. Besides being a devoted husband, father and friend, Lenny was known for his love of cooking and gift of gab. Lenard was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

    Lenard’s life touched so many people, and he will be sorely missed.

  • Colasanti visits Elizabethtown Lions Club

    Maria Colasanti of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the Heartland addressed the Elizabethtown Lions Club at the Nov. 25 meeting, speaking of the effort being made to re-establish a CASA volunteer program in this area. There are currently 450 open cases in Hardin County Court and 183 children in foster care. CASA volunteers are trained to be the eyes and ears for the judge, speaking for the child in court, and aiding the judge in making an informed decision about the child’s present situation and future needs.

  • ALLEGRO THEATRE ENSEMBLE PERFORMS AT CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK

     

      Allegro Dance Theatre’s Musical Theatre Ensemble performed at the opening of Christmas In the Park on Nov. 25. Though the weather was cold, the 50 member group warmed the hearts of the audience singing selections from “Polar Express” and “White Christmas”. The group is under the direction of Phyllis Westfall and Carol E. Zagar.

  • Betson returns from 14-month Iraq deployment

    BETSON. Captain Drew Betson returned from a 14-month Iraq deployment on Dec. 8. Captain Betson is the company commander of A Co., 4-64 Armor, 3rd Infantry Div, stationed at Fort Stewart, Ga. He is the son of Retired Col. Bill and Donna Betson of Vine Grove.
