    Amber Ann Brown and Larry Neal Travis of Louisville announce the birth of a daughter, Jessalyn Ann Travis, on July 20, 2008, at University of Louisville Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches.

    Grandparents are Tina and Terry Constant of Elizabethtown, Kevin Brown of Vine Grove and Linda and Larry Travis of Paducah.

    Great-grandparents are Judith A. Leonhart of Radcliff and the late Charles E. Leonhart and Jerry Brown of Louisville and the late Bonnie Brown.

    Matheney celebrates 80th birthday

    Louise Matheney of Elizabethtown will celebrate her 80th birthday, from 2 to 5 p.m., today, Oct. 26, 2008, at Kensington Manor.

    She was born Oct. 18, 1928 in Monterey, Tenn.

    She is from Rineyville and attended Rineyville Baptist Church.

    She was married to the late Dewey Matheney.

    She has two daughters, Kay Farmer of Louisville and Suzy Bruton of Leitchfield; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

     

  • Noon Rotary welcomes Dana Beth Lyddan as speaker

    The Elizabethtown Noon Rotary welcomed John Hardin High School seniors Alex Burgess and Joseph Swartz at their meeting on Nov.18. Dana Beth Lyddan, director of the Elizabethtown/Hardin County Heritage Council, was the featured speaker at the noon meeting of the club. Lyddan shared with the club some of the Heritage Council’s plans for downtown including the addition of commissioned paintings of historical moments from Elizabethtown’s past to be featured outside city hall. Additionally, she updated the club on the progress with the restoration of the Historic State Theater.

    Paul and Kara Brandt of Louisville announce the birth of a son, Christian Jett Brandt, on Sept. 7, 2008, at Baptist Hospital East. He weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20 ½ inches long.

    Paternal grandparents are Judy and Dan Beam of Hodgenville and David and Cathy Brandt of Williamsburg, Va. Maternal grandparents are Karen Kinzer of Floyds Knobs, Ind., and Paul Kinzer of Clarksville, Ind.

     

  • Binkleys celebrate 49th wedding anniversary today

     

    Kenneth and Geraldine Binkley of Stephensburg are celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary today, Nov. 13, 2008. Together they have two sons, Jerry Gene of St. Croix, Ind., and Peter Binkley of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Maureen Bruce of Shelbyville and Gail Osman of Eastview; and nine grandchildren.

  • Rios graduates from basic infantry training

     

    RIOS. Army Pfc. Antonio Rios has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. A 2008 graduate of Central Hardin High School, he is the son of Wanda Maldonado of  Big Clifty.  

  • Bluegrass Middle School Football appreciates community

    On Nov. 1, the Bluegrass Middle School Colts Football team became the first ever Kentucky State 8th Grade Middle School Champion by winning the championship series held at Lexington Catholic in Lexington. Their season began June 1 with conditioning, followed by two-a-day practices during the month of July, and the regular season beginning the second week of August and ending on Nov. 1.

    Amelia Yates announces the birth of a sister, Maranda Lea Yates on Oct. 9, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 18 ½ inches long.

    Parents are Richard and Samantha Yates of Cecilia.

    Maranda has another sister, Sarah Bandurske.

    Grandparents are Muriel and Leona Yates of Cecilia and Morris and Amanda Smith of Pennsylvania.
