  • Lane closure scheduled on U.S. 31W

    A section of north and southbound U.S. 31W, in Hardin County, will be reduced to one lane in each direction today and Wednesday, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials.

    According to a news release, the road will be reduced to a single lane to allow crews space to repair a barrier wall near mile-point 34.

    The left lane will be closed in both directions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

    Motorists are asked to use extra caution in the work zone.

    Claborn Lee ‘Sonny’ Walters

    Claborn Lee “Sonny” Walters, 70, of Sonora, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at his residence.

    Survivors include his wife, Patsy Walters; a daughter, Sonja Skaggs; and a son, Danny Rutledge.

    The funeral was at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Three Forks Bacon Creek Baptist Church with burial in Hammonsville Cemetery.

    Dixon-Rogers Funeral Home in Magnolia was in charge of arrangements.

    HARDIN COUNTY — George Ramsden considers Black Friday the shopping equivalent of the Super Bowl.

    “This has turned into an event,” Ramsden, manager of the Elizabethtown J.C. Penney, said Friday morning in his office as customers bombarded store inventory.

    The economy put a heavy damper on holiday sales last year, but businesses are hoping for a slight rebound this year, starting with the booster shot that is after-Thanksgiving sales.
