  • Berry recommends discounts for landfill users



    HARDIN COUNTY — The Pearl Hollow Landfill’s rising debt — created in part by a reduction in the amount of waste tonnage — has been a constant concern for Hardin County Fiscal Court for the past several months.

    On Tuesday, Judge-Executive Harry Berry offered some ideas to counteract the anticipated $600,000 to $800,000 shortfall, in the form of discounts on “gate rates,” a disposal rate charged to customers of the landfill.

    ELIZABETHTOWN — An Elizabethtown man indicted last year on charges of possession and distribution of matter portraying sexual performances by minors pleaded guilty Tuesday to the five counts against him in exchange for a 15-month prison sentence.

  • Wastewater plant to receive roof upgrade


    The Valley Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Elizabethtown is scheduled to receive millions of dollars in upgrades to increase capacity, and the city council voted Monday to approve a bid for a roofing project as well.

    Upton-based Stateline Roofing and Metal Co. Inc. was awarded the contract at $30,525. It was one of two bids for the project. Georgehan Roofing of Louisville offered a bid of $65,200.

    This is another great recipe from Kayleen Johnson of Elizabethtown, and it’s another recipe that I think would work well for Easter breakfast or brunch.

    Kayleen found the recipe in an advertisement for breakfast sausage links. She wanted to make it for Christmas morning but had to do a test run first, so she made it one Sunday for all her children. (They come to Sunday dinner every week, and everybody loves having “breakfast for dinner,” right?) It was, needless to say, a hit.
