    She started in track and field as a fifth-grader in Fleming County. Before her family moved to Kentucky, she was raised on chicken farms in Arkansas. In Arkansas she participated in barrel racing and horseback riding.

  • PREP SOFTBALL/BASEBALL: Lady Waves win district title (05/22)

    The Meade County Lady Waves are the queens of the 11th District yet again.

    Top-seeded Meade County won its third straight district tournament title Tuesday night, topping second-seeded Breckinridge County, 8-0 in Lewisport.

    “The girls played really well,” said veteran Meade County coach Mike Harreld. “It was just a great, total team effort. Breck County is a much-improved team. I thought we looked pretty sharp. I still feel like we’ve got to get some bunts down and hit a little bit better, but overall we looked pretty good.”

  • PREP BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: LaRue, Green meet in 18th finals (05/22)

    Mother Nature wins again.

    The 18th District baseball and softball tournament championship games between LaRue County and Green County were rained out Tuesday and rescheduled for 6 tonight at Caverna – that is, if Mother Nature allows it.

    More rain and thunderstorms are in the forecast for today, meaning both games could get pushed back to Thursday. Because LaRue County and Green County have graduation Friday night, Lady Hawks coach Aaron Howell hopes Plan ‘A’ works out.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin cruises past John Hardin, into final (05/22)

    With what could be a long and memorable postseason ahead of it, Central Hardin is being careful not to get too far ahead of itself.

    “One game at a time,” said Central Hardin junior Jessica Nall.

    Central Hardin’s playoff opener went just as planned as the No. 9 Lady Bruins scored in every inning and beat John Hardin, 15-0 in four innings in the 17th District Softball Tournament semifinals at Elizabethtown on Tuesday.

  • PREP BASEBALL: North stuns E'town (5/22)

    The North Hardin Trojans have waited six years to get back to the 5th Region Baseball Tournament, so a 35-minute lightning delay Tuesday night was merely a speed bump for them.

    With North Hardin leading 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the teams were pulled off the field.

    The break didn’t bother sophomore Javier Echevarria as he returned to the mound and shut the door on any comeback hopes Elizabethtown might have had, knocking the Panthers out of the 17th District Baseball Tournament with a 5-1 win at Central Park.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: North Hardin holds off Elizabethtown (05/22)

    Bailey Blair’s mind felt like a blender entering Tuesday night’s 17th District Softball Tournament late semifinal at Elizabethtown.

    North Hardin’s standout sophomore pitcher was dealing with a slump, facing the team (the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers) which ended her season last year in a game she blamed herself for and she was taking the circle for the first time since learning about the death of her longtime pitching coach, Vernon Bibb, who passed away Friday after a lengthy illness.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Central Hardin crushes John Hardin (5/22)

    Central Hardin senior catcher Gabe Hogan knows junior pitcher Josh Krupinski likes to work fast and he found a groove early against the John Hardin Bulldogs on Tuesday.

    Once the Central Hardin bats started to get cranked up, the Bruins made fast work of the Bulldogs.

    The combination of Krupinski and an opportunistic offense added up to a 10-0 Central Hardin victory in five innings in the 17th District Baseball Tournament semifinals at Central Park.

  • EIS approves tentative budget

    Elizabethtown Independent Schools are weathering tight financial times with the district’s savings.

    The EIS board approved the district’s tentative budget Monday night at its regular meeting at Panther Academy. The budget shows the district spending more out of its general fund than it’s taking in, but a hefty contingency and starting balance in the budget allows the move, according to Finance Director Denise Morgan.

  • Ekron man pleads guilty to theft charges

    A Meade County resident charged in a series of thefts from Wal-Mart in Radcliff pleaded guilty Tuesday during an arraignment in Hardin Circuit Court.

    Joseph D. Mullins, 29, of Ekron accepted a plea agreement last week through the county’s rocket docket program. On Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to three felony and two misdemeanor counts of shoplifting.
