  • County, state officials mourn E’town’s Walker

    Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker may have represented Elizabethtown, but his sudden death Friday from a massive heart attack left friends from around the county and state in a shaken state of mourning.

    Gov. Steve Beshear asked for a moment of silence Friday for Walker during the rededication of the General George Patton Museum of Leadership at Fort Knox and officials from all walks of government offered condolences, shed tears and remembered Walker as a catalyst for good.

    Rick Games took over as chief of Elizabethtown Fire Department at the start of 1990. Tim Walker was one of his first hires.

    “He was conscientious then like he was today,” Games said of Walker, who died suddenly Friday morning.

    Games moved on to become president of the Elizabethtown-Hardin County Industrial Foundation while Walker served as city councilman and mayor of Elizabethtown. Upon Walker’s victory in the 2010 mayoral race, the two men again worked together to bring jobs to Elizabethtown, traveling to India to court industry.

    It was July 30, a day after the grueling Cal Ripken Ohio Valley Regional tournaments – which Pyles served as tournament director – finished at the Elizabethtown Sports Park.

    It was the first tournament to be held at the then-brand new Sports Park and Walker wanted to thank Pyles, the Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission and a corps of volunteers for their efforts.

  • COLLEGE SOFTBALL: Krupinski named NAIA All-American (06/16)

    COLUMBIA Lindsey Wilson College sophomore first baseman Kristina Krupinski has earned a second-team spot on the NAIA Softball All-America Team.

    Krupinski, a former Central Hardin star, finished the season with 24 home runs, ranking second in NAIA and leading the Mid-South Conference. Her .949 slugging percentage ranked third in the nation and she drove in 70 runs – eighth-best in the NAIA.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Central Hardin's Harrington leads area's All-State honorees (06/16)

    Drew Harrington can now call himself a two-time first-team All-State honoree.

    The Central Hardin senior southpaw was selected to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches’ Association first-team All-State for the second straight year Thursday.

    The University of Louisville-bound Harrington went 10-1 with a 0.26 ERA for the Bruins, who finished 34-6 and lost to eventual state champion Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park in the Forcht Bank/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament semifinals last weekend.

    VINE GROVE

    A work session for the Vine Grove city budget has been scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall on West Main Street. City council members expect to discuss funding difficulties and pass a budget during their next regular meeting, which is 6:30 p.m. July 1.

  • Mayor Walker died of heart attack

    Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker died suddenly Friday morning from a heart attack brought on by a cardiovascular disease, said Chief Deputy Hardin County Coroner Kenneth Spangenberger.

    Spangenberger pronounced Walker dead at 5:33 a.m. Friday at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was 54.

    City employees talked about their fondness for Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker during a news conference Friday morning and discussed what the city will need to do to move forward.

    Walker, 54, was pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m. Friday by Hardin County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Spangenberger at Hardin Memorial Hospital after he died at his home.
