  • E'town approves lien modifications, amnesty program

    Elizabethtown on Monday approved a policy to expedite lien foreclosures while extending an olive branch in the form of an amnesty program for smaller liens.

    City Council approved a policy allowing the Code Enforcement Board to foreclose on a lien if it exceeds $10,000 or 50 percent of the assessed value; a standing order has been issued and the city has completed more than 10 maintenance actions in a single year or more than 20 actions over multiple years; or the lien is more than five years old.

    HORSE CAVE — Sierra Mullins didn’t see if the ball was fair or foul. Aaron Howell didn’t hesitate when waving Trishtian Cruse home.

    In the 18th District Softball Tournament semifinals Monday night at Caverna, it was win or go home.

    Thanks in part to Mullins’ RBI slap double in the bottom of the sixth, the second-seeded LaRue County Lady Hawks are moving on after picking up a 4-2 win over the third-seeded Lady Colonels.

  • Sheriff wary of calendar solicitations

    What began as a gesture of appreciation for employees in the Hardin Circuit Court Clerk’s Office has turned into what Hardin County Sheriff Charlie Williams suspects is a scam.

    Williams on Monday said he received several complaints last week concerning someone attempting to solicit money for advertisements in a calendar for the Hardin County Clerk’s Office and the circuit court clerk’s office.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: John Hardin pulls away from Fort Knox in 17th quarterfinal (05/21)

    The Geers got the fourth-seeded John Hardin Lady Bulldogs in gear Monday evening, while Taylor Miller finally put away the fifth-seeded Fort Knox Lady Eagles.

    Katlyn Geer picked up the complete-game win and helped herself by belting her first home run of the season, younger sister Paige Geer also had a solid day at the plate and Miller hit her first homer, too, as John Hardin pulled away for a 14-4 win in five innings in the 17th District Softball Tournament’s lone quarterfinal at Elizabethtown.

  • PREP BASEBALL: John Hardin tops Fort Knox (5/21)

    The Fort Knox Eagles were on the verge of breaking their 46-game 17th District losing streak, but the John Hardin Bulldogs stole one from them.

    Literally.

    The fourth-seeded Bulldogs scored two runs on a wild pitch and an error to rally for a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Fort Knox in the district tournament quarterfinal Monday evening at Central Hardin High School.

  • E'town to present budget in early June

    Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker said the public will get a detailed look at the 2013-14 fiscal year budget early next month.

    Walker plans to present the budget and deliver a message during Elizabethtown City Council’s June 3 meeting.

    He declined to release specifics on the budget Monday afternoon because details of the spending plan are being finalized. Council members met multiple times last week at City Hall to review and fine tune the budget and planned to wrap up discussions Monday night.

  • Three killed in wrecks in Nelson County over weekend

    Three young adults were killed in two separate wrecks that occurred within hours of each other Saturday morning in Nelson County.

    Morehead State University student Molly McBride, 21, was killed in a wreck at 6 a.m. Saturday on Blue Grass Parkway near Bardstown, according to a news release from the university.

    McBride was a junior biomedical sciences major and daughter of the university’s dean of the Caudill College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, according to the release. A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Morehead.
