HOW TO USE THIS COLUMN. Military and military organization announcements are published at no charge in this calendar on Tuesdays. Items for the calendar must be turned in by noon Monday. POC refers to “point of contact.” Area codes are listed only for phone numbers outside the 270 area code. Listings not updated within a year are removed. VA service officers

Tuesday, April 30

• DAV van service, from Grayson County to Louisville VA Hospital for appointments 9 a.m.-noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Five days notice needed. POC: Val Border, 854-5630.
• Fort Knox Red Cross volunteer orientations, 10 a.m., American Red Cross, 1131 Fifth Ave., Fort Knox. Volunteers needed as course instructors, case workers, disaster team members, hospital and clerical workers. POC: (502) 624-2163.

Wednesday

• DAV van service, from Hardin County to Louisville VA Hospital for appointments 9 a.m.-noon. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Five days notice needed. POC: Val Border, 877-2229.

Thursday

• Diabetic retinopathy screening, offered by the Ophthalmology Clinic at Ireland Army Community Hospital. Must have valid military ID card. POC for appointment: (502) 624-9022, 624-9133 or 624-9238.

Monday

• DAV van service, Hardin County to Grayson County VA Healthcare Center for appointments 9a.m.-noon Mondays. Five days notice needed. POC: Val Border, 877-2229.
• Free transportation to Ireland Army Community Hospital (veterans’ clinic) provided by Radcliff DAV Chapter 156; must have valid appointment, a letter from the doctor and someone to accompany you. POC: 351-3666. Call by Thursday for Monday appointments.
• The Heartland Service Center (formerly known as Fort Knox NARFE Service Center) has relocated to Nolin RECC, 411 Ring Road, E’town. Active and retired federal annuitants and survivors are encouraged to bring their inquiries to the service center for assistance. It is open from 9 to 11 a.m. the first Monday of each month, prior to the NARFE Elizabethtown Chapter 1050 meeting. POC: Sam Alexander, 769-1264.
• Veterans Employment Services Outreach, 1:30-4:30 p.m., basement of Radcliff City Hall, 411 W. Lincoln Trail Blvd., Radcliff. Employment services such as job search techniques, resume writing skills, interviewing skills and job referrals. POC: Jimmy Armstrong, 766-5115, Ext. 45845.
