    Bell ringers needed

    It is that time of the year again when the Salvation Army needs volunteer bell ringers.

    All it takes is to give them a call or drop by at the Salvation Thrift Store on North Mulberry Street (U.S. 62) to sign up.

    When I dropped by on Election Day and signed up, they still had plenty of openings for more signatures.

    You probably already know it, but all money donated through the program stays right here in the Hardin County area to assist the folks here who need help.

    Doctor, patient have hearing problems

    I went for my first visit to my new doctor. Everything was going fine until my phone rang. I didn’t want it to keep ringing because it would have rang three more times loudly. So I answered the phone. He was busy typing on his little computer anyway. I tried to hurriedly get off and he got up and said as he went out the door that he would be back when I got off the phone.

    I know it is considered rude when you answer your phone while you are with a doctor, but what do you do if it keeps ringing?

    Be careful what you ask for

    In October 2009, then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told Congress the Affordable Health Care Act, aka Obamacare, would be voted on the day after the 2,500-plus page bill was given to members of Congress. The vote went along party lines with the majority Democrats passing the bill.

    If ever there was a great example of oxymoron, calling this bill “affordable” is it. There is nothing affordable about it.

    Supporting Obama

    Gov. Mitt Romney supports cutting Social Security and Medicare to reduce the country’s debt. This puts the burden on the elderly and is morally wrong. Our seniors need these programs to live decent lives and they contributed from their paychecks all their working lives. Yet, you heard it during the debates, he won’t touch the tax cuts for the top 2 percent super rich, which would supply hundreds of millions to our country’s treasury and could help reduce the debt.
