On Dec. 14, Americans remembered the 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary whose lives were taken by a heavily armed man just two years ago. Many will light candles and send their thoughts and prayers.

You would think that we Americans would have learned something about the use of deception when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, without provocation or a declaration of war while pretending to talk peace.
Peace comes from within an individual and a community. In an era that promotes the use of violence to fight against those who are different from us, it’s extremely rare to see examples of forgiveness that exemplify the scripture of “forgiving those who trespass against us.”
