In honor of November being Prematurity Awareness Month, it is important for us all to remember that healthy babies are worth the wait. As a doctor who delivers babies in Elizabethtown, I see many pregnant women who are a few weeks from a full-term pregnancy and are feeling really uncomfortable. Some are ready to schedule a delivery by induction or cesarean section before they have reached their 39th or 40th week of pregnancy. They know friends or family members whose doctors have agreed to schedule such a delivery.

    ‘Where’s the beef?’

Reading last week’s headline article about Bill Bennett’s campaign violations made me feel like asking, “Where’s the beef?”

Sounded like some very petty charges to me. I believe this was done more to discredit Mr. Bennett and to discourage him from considering a run for mayor in the future than any wrongdoing by him.

    Enough school taxes

A recent article had a statement by Hardin County Schools community relations director that board members were tired of having to turn to local taxpayers to fund the school district. Taxpayers are tired of it, too.

    Kentucky-Japan ties grow

I am a University of Kentucky graduate and current JET Program English teacher based in Koori Machi, Japan.

Recently it was my pleasure to assist the Elizabethtown delegation during their recent visit to our town. As a fellow Kentuckian, I was glad to play a small part in furthering the personal and economic ties between my home state and my new home in Japan.

    Full ownership and responsibility

This past month I got to witness an unending comedy of errors by the GOP and the Democrats.

First, there was the government shutdown in which President Barack Obama and the U.S. House of Representatives played a game of chicken over whether to defund or delay Obamacare.

With the mainstream media as his personal cheerleading squad, our campaigner-in-chief played it hard with a my-way-or-the-highway approach while using government workers and our national parks as his pawns.

    Fonda the problem

During an interview, Jane Fonda was questioned about military veterans taking issue with her playing the role of a loved first lady of a beloved president. Her response was if veterans have a problem with it, “ they need to get a life. If it tweaks the right, who cares?”

    Hardly R&R time

As a currently serving federal civilian employee, I read the “Government Pays for Time Off” editorial of Oct. 25 with great interest. In candor, I was quite taken aback at the position advocated by The News-Enterprise editorial board. In my view, the reasoning presented in that editorial failed to adequately address the root problems currently plaguing our system of government.

    Bruno for president

After days of fighting like cats and dogs, our U.S. Congress and President Obama have the government “running” again by agreeing to continue to spend more money than the country has, which results in additional borrowing, because none of them have the fortitude to stop their political prostitution.
