    Call to action on redistricting

Hardin County, I am asking for your help. You probably have been reading about the redistricting being considered in the upcoming special session in Frankfort.

    Governing is no joke

I have just concluded watching a Channel 2 TV rebroadcast of an exercise in charades in a Elizabethtown City Council meeting on Aug. 5.

    A pipeline into pockets

A group of individuals gathered in Frankfort this week to protest the running of a pipeline by Williams pipeline company through central Kentucky. The protesters intentions were to have the governor block the use of eminent domain to seize their property. Their stated concerns revolved around environmental issues and loss of use of their own property.

    Character marred

This is in response to a story that ran July 30, 2013, in The News-Enterprise.

The story portrayed Mr. Skees as a common criminal. If the newspaper had done some investigating, they would have found Mr. Skees to be the exact opposite.

    Nothing but race

Some writers would have you believe if George Zimmerman were black this would never have been news. That is true, but what they do not tell you is if Zimmerman were black, he would have been taken to the police station immediately following the incident and charged with a crime. Then left to fight to prove he was trying to stand his ground when the incident occurred. There most certainly would not have been the support of gun manufactures helping with his defense.

    Time to get real

Americamight never have heard of Trayvon Martin if either I or another black had killed him. Over 90 percent of American black homicides are black on black. Efforts were made to present George Zimmerman as a racist white man; despite the fact that his mother is Peruvian Hispanic and his father is white, just to reopen angry wounds of the 1960s Civil Rights Era black experience in pursuit of a liberal agenda. Once again, black Americans got “played.”

    McConnell no statesman

Some voters say they will stick with Sen. Mitch McConnell in 2014 because of his five terms of experience that have served Kentucky and America so well. More and more Kentuckians are fed up with Minority Leader McConnell’s roadblock tactics in the Senate. Multitudes of voters in the other 49 states also are unhappy with McConnell’s poor, negative leadership.

    Keep it clean

Thanks to the writer of the July 14 letter pointing out the danger of freshly cut grass on the roadway. It becomes even more slick when rain falls on the cuttings.

Another serious danger to all riders and drivers is loose gravel that washes out or is dragged onto the roadway. When that happens at my place, I get a broom — a push broom works best — and sweep it back to where it belongs.

    The race is on

It appears that Kentucky’s own Alison Lundergan Grimes is off to a fast start in her bid to “Ditch Mitch.” With less than a few weeks in, Grimes may have committed her first campaign violation when she sent out an email begging for money. It seems a good number of those pleas went to the County Clerk’s Offices throughout the state which she, as secretary of state, oversees.
