    No more controls, please

After listening to the weeklong news reports about the bombing at the Boston Marathon, I am wondering why no one in the media or any of our liberal politicians have come out demanding new bomb control laws.

    Senate fails on gun bill

The Manchin-Toomey legislation was easy, and smart and patriotic. Expanded background checks are the minimum of what this country should pass to protect our families and communities.

We must have a background check to volunteer in our child’s school. But we can go to a gun show and buy all the guns and ammunition we want with no background check. Why do we make it so easy?

Women will go to the polls at the next elections to change the Congress, one vote at a time.

    Consider perspective

I am writing to respond to a previous writer’s letter regarding the poverty simulation. I take offense at his suggestion that becoming a single mother is somehow the result of her poor decisions.

    Magical math?

After reading the news about passing the $12 million county government move during this difficult financial times all I can say is: Welcome to the “Harry Berry County Government Complex” brought to you by $12 million of magical mathematical funds from somewhere.

    Unfinished business

April 9 I spoke at the Hardin Fiscal Court meeting in opposition to moving county offices. We were allotted 4 minutes to speak; therefore, I had to omit some key points.

    Put on your shoes

Spring has returned and with it the increased possibility of severe storms.

A couple of years ago, during a TV interview, a reporter asked an emergency room doctor what types of injuries he sees most often. The doctor looked in the camera, and raised his voice and said, “People, when bad weather is forecast, put on your shoes.”

    Sticking with Mitch

I was not surprised to see Ashley Judd drop out as a potential contender against Senator Mitch McConnell. The Democratic Party must be hard up looking for candidates to run against Mitch; Judd did not even live in Kentucky.

    Define building requirements correctly

I believe the new Hardin County government building’s gross square footage requirement is overstated and savings in county funds will be realized by accurately defining the base line requirement.
