    Faith-based rehab works
    I had not heard if any of the Christians in our Kentucky Assembly championed the Christian faith-based programs that have been successful in helping those with drug related/nonviolent convictions overcome their problems. Possibly they didn’t knowing that no matter the evidence the ACLU and much of their counterparts on the liberal side of the political aisle would scream their heads off.

    Precious wildlife
    The sandhill cranes that fly across Kentucky are part of the mass migration that takes place twice a year across this planet. For many of us, the sight and sound of the cranes is magic. Sad to say there are a few who only see this miracle of creation as something to strike down and destroy.
    What has been lost, though easy to disregard, is a creature’s precious, irreplaceable life; and each life is so vulnerable and exists so briefly.

    Actions destroy credibility
    The recent siege in Madison, Wis., has given me cause for thought. As someone who has been to a number of local Tea Party rallies, to include the one in Washington D.C., on Sept. 12, 2009, I find it interesting how the actions of the Democrats in Madison compare to those of the Tea Party Patriots in Washington, D.C., and how our main stream media has chosen to portray them.

    Questionable ayes for eyes
    I have not heard of anyone who agrees with the passing of Senate Bill 110, which permits optometrists to perform eye surgery. Apparently they will not be permitted to perform cataract surgery, but who decides? Patients had better decide or we may be “blind” sided in more ways than one.

    Seeing, hearing, doing
    I am writing to express my dislike of the language that is used at my school. I do not go a day without hearing at least three people use vulgar or inappropriate language. I do not believe middle school students need to be using curse words and having constant sexual related conversations every day. There are plenty of other ways you can express your feelings that do not involve use of dirty language.
    Also some subjects are not school appropriate and should not be discussed.

    On Parrett
    The parrot is widely known as a vibrantly colored bird with a particular talent for imitating people and other animals. There is a particular Parrett from Hardin County who also possesses this famous knack for imitation.
    During last year’s campaign for state Senate, this Parrett was quite good at imitating a conservative and casting himself as a bipartisan do-gooder who desired to represent people over politics. As soon as this Parrett flew to Frankfort, it became clear that the imitation gig was up.
