    Just say no

We’ve come a long way from wanting to have a glass of wine with your dinner or a beer with your pizza. Alcohol is in practically every store and now you want bars and all of Hardin County wet.

This is a really nice community and we got along fine before all of these changes. Do you really want the fights and killings bars bring? What about the lives alcohol destroys? And not just the lives of people who drink but also their families and the people they meet when they get behind the wheel of an automobile.

    Where’s the outrage?

In late January of this year, President Barack Obama released an Internet video, “African Americans for Obama,” in which he appealed to black voters to vote for him and referred them to the website, “African Americans for Obama.”

In my journey through life, I had to deal with the fruits and the consequences of my actions. My military career had  high and low points, but I made it to the finish. I couldn’t retire completely with my military pension and pursued a second career in law enforcement in October 1997. Over the years, I considered resigning many times.

No such thing as a free lunch

The headline in the Wednesday edition, "Breakfast to be free in HCS schools," is part of the deficit spending problem in the U.S. and is typical of the "socialist" mindset.

The article states that funding is through the “Provision Two program of the National School Lunch Act” for up to four years.

    Thanks for a memorable run

On Primary Election Day, I was not victorious in my bid for state representative but I still learned from the experience.

I want to thank the readers, voters and members of the media for being engaged in this election. Kentucky only had a turnout rate of 13.82 percent and Hardin County’s rate was 7.78 percent. I hope more individuals are involved in November because our democracy depends on an engaged citizenry.

    Remember the ultimate sacrifice

Memorial Day is a time for pause and reflection as we remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and proved the privileges of freedom and security are never free.

Let us never forget those who sacrificed the early years of their adulthood and all who made the supreme sacrifice and have gone on to their final retreat.

    Foster parents are heroes, too

Americans always have loved heroes. Sometimes we get carried away and assign the title to fictional comic book characters, superstar athletes or celebrities. True heroes are those who lay their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.

Those serving in our military take an oath to pledge their very lives to protect ours. American citizens should take advantage of every opportunity to thank these men and women whose service secures our liberty.
