No such thing as a free lunch

The headline in the Wednesday edition, "Breakfast to be free in HCS schools," is part of the deficit spending problem in the U.S. and is typical of the "socialist" mindset.

The article states that funding is through the “Provision Two program of the National School Lunch Act” for up to four years.

    Thanks for a memorable run

On Primary Election Day, I was not victorious in my bid for state representative but I still learned from the experience.

I want to thank the readers, voters and members of the media for being engaged in this election. Kentucky only had a turnout rate of 13.82 percent and Hardin County’s rate was 7.78 percent. I hope more individuals are involved in November because our democracy depends on an engaged citizenry.

    Remember the ultimate sacrifice

Memorial Day is a time for pause and reflection as we remember all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and proved the privileges of freedom and security are never free.

Let us never forget those who sacrificed the early years of their adulthood and all who made the supreme sacrifice and have gone on to their final retreat.

    Foster parents are heroes, too

Americans always have loved heroes. Sometimes we get carried away and assign the title to fictional comic book characters, superstar athletes or celebrities. True heroes are those who lay their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.

Those serving in our military take an oath to pledge their very lives to protect ours. American citizens should take advantage of every opportunity to thank these men and women whose service secures our liberty.

    Real politics vs. campus politics

I want to commend Sherry Kelley on her recent letter in support of Jimmie Lee’s reelection. As a voting member of  the District, I too wish to add my support for Jimmie Lee. A man who already has proven himself to have and has practiced all the attributes and more portrayed by the letter writers from Madisonville, Danville, Bowling Green, New York city and Chicago. It is amazing how the letters from all those diverse places seem to read alike.

    Quick thinking saved a life

I want to thank the nurses and doctors at the emergency room of Hardin Memorial Hospital and the local AirEvac flight crew for saving my life. On April 25, at my home I felt the crush of pressure on my chest and arm, and told my husband, Sam, that I needed to go to the emergency room, that I thought I was having a heart attack.

     Paying a fair share

I have heard quite a bit lately from President Barack Obama and his supporting cast of shills attacking those who have been successful and claiming that they need to pay their fair share.”
