Racism not a factor in theater

I applaud Ike Boutwell for his decision to do what he wishes to do with his own business. One of the responders to the letters section seemed to want to indicate his not showing “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” was something other than Jane Fonda, ergo, perhaps racial. Mr. Boutwell also did not show “Monster-in-Law” a couple years back because Fonda was the main character.

    Fonda a traitor

My appreciation to the movie theater owner who refuses to show “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.”

Jane Fonda is a sleazeball traitor and should have been executed in front of a firing squad. Of all insults, having her play Nancy Reagan.

    Mayor should show compassion

In a recent article about noise levels at Flex Films, Joseph Cecil petitioned the company and Elizabethtown City Council for relief from the plant’s noise levels. Mayor Edna Berger’s response to his complaint was, “It didn’t bother me. It smelled like money to me.”

This showed a total lack of concern and sympathy for the affected residents. E’town deserves better from its mayor.

    Redistricting Democrats

The most critical session of interest to Hardin County and particularly Radcliff, is the Kentucky Legislature redistricting plan. The proposal leaves the 25th House District untouched in southern Hardin County, but northern Hardin County’s 26th House District could undergo a slicing into four different districts.

Evolution of state fair mirrors evolution of state

The Kentucky State Fair brings certain things to mind: cattle in hay-lined stalls; hand-stitched quilts and perfectly frosted cakes displaying blue ribbons; graceful show horses; novelty foods eaten only once a year; and spinning rides and games of chance. These are the sights, sounds and smells of our fair – one of the most successful and unique state fairs in the nation.

    Call to action on redistricting

Hardin County, I am asking for your help. You probably have been reading about the redistricting being considered in the upcoming special session in Frankfort.

    Governing is no joke

I have just concluded watching a Channel 2 TV rebroadcast of an exercise in charades in a Elizabethtown City Council meeting on Aug. 5.
