Who’s looking out for common good?
I read the July 2 letter by Paul Whiteley Sr. and am more than a little bit confused. He accuses Republicans of not working for the common good. Really? And just what has the Democratic Party done to promote the common good?
Their behavior since November 2016 has been like a spoiled 3-year-old throwing a temper tantrum. Rather than act like adults and help govern, they have backed groups such as ANTIFA and “The Resistance.” Even to this day, they cling to unproven Russian conspiracy theories and do everything they can do to sow dissent.
What have they done since winning back the House of Representatives? Attack President Trump, call for open borders, vote to give illegal aliens the right to vote in our elections and propose the New Green Deal which would destroy our economy. This bill was so bad not even one of their senators would support it.
To see where President Donald Trump and the Republicans have worked for the common good, you need look no farther than our current economic boom. The 2017 Tax Reform and Job Creation Act has been a resounding success. On July 3, the Dow Jones Industrials closed at an all-time high. The July 5 news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported a national unemployment rate for June at 3.7 percent. This was up from 3.6 percent for April and May which was the lowest unemployment rate since December 1969. The same report shows both wage growth and increase in jobs in areas such as transportation and manufacturing.
So to answer the question of who is really promoting the common good, I have a simple answer, “It’s the economy stupid!”
