Encouraged by school programs for vets

I watch or read news stories of law-enforcement personnel being mocked, assaulted or even killed; speakers being shouted down and prevented from speaking in our colleges; prayers being banned from public events; knees being taken during our National Anthem; our Congress unable to govern because of growing hostility between the parties – and I despair for the future of our country.

But then I am given the opportunity to attend Veterans Day programs at Lincoln Trail Elementary and East Hardin Middle schools and I see teachers and administrators teaching their students the historical truths about our country and the need to have discipline, to respect each other and to love and respect our country and those who have sacrificed for it.

I see students flourishing in a loving environment. And I find myself with tears in my eyes and realizing how fortunate I am to live in a community in which there is still hope for the future.

Thank you, teachers and administrators at LTES and EHMS.
