Foster parents are heroes, too

Americans always have loved heroes. Sometimes we get carried away and assign the title to fictional comic book characters, superstar athletes or celebrities. True heroes are those who lay their lives on the line to protect our freedoms.

Those serving in our military take an oath to pledge their very lives to protect ours. American citizens should take advantage of every opportunity to thank these men and women whose service secures our liberty.

Imagine these three scenarios.

The telephone call comes at three in the morning. Your mother, who lives in another state, has fallen, broken her hip, and is in the hospital. She is calling for you to come right away.

During your once-a-week telephone conversation with your father, you notice a slur in his voice. You’re not expected to visit with him again until the holidays, but something about the conversation makes you change your mind.

Setting youngsters on the right learning path early often can lead to long-term academic success.

That’s good news for students and parents in Hardin County Schools with the recent announcement that two more preschools in the district — Erin McPherson’s class at Lincoln Trail Elementary and Zola Walker’s class at G.C. Burkhead — have been recognized Classrooms of Excellence by the Kentucky Department of Education.
