  • Getting in the faces of solicitors

    ISSUE: Door-to-door solicitors
    OUR VIEW:
New EPD policy is right step

Thanks go to Chief Tracy Schiller and the Elizabethtown Police Department for tightening policies regarding door-to-door solicitors.

Yes, every once in awhile it is nice to have someone knock on your door and offer to vacuum your house. That is if you have enough strength to say no to the $1,000 vacuum cleaner they are trying to sell you.

  • Never outgrow the extraordinary story of Easter

Years ago when our son, Dave Jr., was about 7 or 8 years old, he awoke early one Easter morning before anyone but I was awake. He immediately began singing the chorus of the Don Francisco song, “He’s Alive.”

“He's alive yes He's alive/Yes He's alive and I'm forgiven,” Dave sang as he hopped out of bed.

At first, before I could understand what he was singing, I thought something was wrong. Maybe he was having a bad dream or was sick and crying for help.

Nothing was wrong. In fact, everything was right.

    Columnist’s view could be joke
Star Parker’s recent column, “Limiting campaign donations puts limits on ideas,” could be published on onion.com as a joke.
Parker is worried that limits on campaign donations will stifle the “free flow of information and expression.”

According to Parker, “Political markets are like other markets.” Well, sure they are as long as politicians are for sale to the highest bidder.

    Tank dedicated to C.S. Spalding
Thank you to the Boy Scouts who painted the C.S. Spalding tank in the American Legion Park. Our father would have appreciated the Eagle Scout project since he was a Scout Leader for many years.

    Wife defends husband’s record

I am proud of my husband Jimmie Lee’s 100 percent pro-life voting record. Democrats and Republicans both agree Jimmie is one of the strongest advocates for children in the state legislature.

  • Locked in conflict

    ISSUE: Detention Center budget

    OUR VIEW: Destined for disagreement

The situation was destined for trouble from the start.

It doesn’t matter who the personalities are, it’s the jobs that were bound to conflict with one another sooner or later: judge-executive and jailer, both elected positions.

County governments run jails and must pay for their operation. But as an elected official, the jailer has some degree of autonomy.

    Ask questions about school construction

I appreciate the recent comments by Bill Beckerdite and Kenneth Randall addressing previous letters I have written pertaining to the Hardin County Schools Board. Finally, more people are starting to pay attention to the seeming addiction to spending taxpayer money.
