    Kentucky has a problem

  • Shared experiences define us

We all are a product of experiences. I was reminded of that this week on Facebook.

Message after message have been posted describing kindly school janitors, inspiring teachers, shopping experiences and cruising parking lots as teenagers. The sharing continues today as folks fondly recall bygone days.

Between Tuesday night and the completion of this column Saturday afternoon, 8,340 posts have been filed under a heading called “You’re so Hardin County if...”

  • Can it hurt to talk about something new?

    The issue: Unification proposal
Our view: Full participation is ideal

No one’s ever been injured by an idea.

At this point, the concept of unified government in Hardin County is nothing more than an idea.

  • Support the Safer 65 construction concept

The issue: Improvements to Interstate 65
    Our view:
    Continue to push the idea

At the state’s current pace, Interstate 65 will be under construction for another 15 to 20 years at an estimated cost of $587 million.

That’s a frustrating and unnecessarily expensive process.

    Don’t move
    the boundary
I was glad to see a man stand up against the Y.E.S. alcohol expansion initiative. I don’t know Will Stolz personally, and Wednesday this week is the first time I’ve seen his name, but I applaud his efforts to urge Hardin County residents and specifically those who call themselves Christians to vote against Y.E.S. I am against Y.E.S. because it coolly suggests anything that brings economic success to Hardin County is worthy of a yes vote.

  • Postal Service changes are understandable, not welcomed

The inscription found on the General Post Office in New York City at 8th Avenue and 33rd Street is “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” commonly misidentified as the mail carriers’ creed, describes our faith in the  United States Postal Service.
But necessary budget cuts may impede from where letters and parcels can be mailed.

  • Hungry children need our help

    TOPIC: Backpack Program
OUR VIEW: Don't let our county's children go without

School begins today around Hardin County.

That means some children will bounce into school with excitement, others with apprehension and tears.

Others — too many children — will finish the short school week not knowing if they will have enough food to sustain themselves until school next week.

  • Forbes tells world what we already knew

Dow Corning and Gates Rubber have known it for more than a generation. WL Plastics, UPS Supply Chain Solutions and soon Uflex Industries are proving that it’s still true. Sun Tan City and iPay Technologies were born here because of the truth of what Forbes magazine is sharing with the world.
This area is a great place to do business.
That applies to retailers, restaurants and real estate professionals as well as the manufacturing community.
