    At the annual Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner this week, Bob Swope and Carl Swope received the 2014 Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen Award. It is the same award their father, Bill Swope, received in 2003 as the first such honoree of the Lincoln Heritage Council-Boy Scouts of America.

    The other day my husband went to the post office. After he pulled into a parking space, a young lady in her early 20s pulled into the spot next to him. As my husband was rounding the back of his truck, he noticed the young lady had a bumper sticker that said, “Obama and Biden Forever.” Intrigued, he asked, “So, how is that working for you?”

    It has been a long winter. Are you ready to plan your summer vacation? The Better Business Bureau advises consumers to use care when making plans online and through travel agencies.

    Written complaints to the BBB about travel agencies remain steady. However, the BBB reports that consumer inquiries about travel agencies were significantly higher in 2013 than they were in 2012. BBB received 3,685 inquiries in 2013 compared to 2,324 inquiries in 2012, an increase of 59 percent.
