  • Be careful during sendoff to summer

    ISSUE: Labor Day Weekend
OUR VIEW: The final weekend of the summer

Traditionally seen as the last weekend of the summer, the Labor Day holiday means school is back in session, retail stores are starting to put out winter clothes and football season has started.

Democrats, check out the tea party
It is not a well-kept secret that the elite of the Democratic Party look down on the working class they depend on to stay in power. A review of the leftist blogs will show that.

    Marijuana vs. flouride

I noticed the article printed in The News-Enterprise Tuesday, Aug. 28, titled “Study: Teenagers who routinely use marijuana before age 18 may see long-term declines in IQ.” To me, this is a good reason to discourage pot use among young people.

  • Hospital flips on its power-saving plan

    ISSUE: Hospital energy conservation plan
OUR VIEW: Energy savings is an important goal

If as a homeowner you learned your household energy consumption and related costs were significantly higher than the average of your neighbors, you’d likely want to figure out why and rectify the inequity.

  • Someone else owns it but memories make it home

The final chapter of 311 Elmhurst Ave. being the Evans’  home came to a formal end.

Someone new now owns the Vine Grove house that was home to all of us since 1966, when my parents signed the closing papers to buy a new home as dad retired from the Army.

For more than 40 years, we “kids” and grandkids moved in and moved out, visited, married and divorced, but always had “home” there for comfort.

    Deal with the facts

Are facts relevant any more when it comes to political discussions?

Republicans don’t want big government running everything; are against regulations for businesses; want the government out of our personal lives; want people to take responsibility for their own decisions in life.

Yet they contradict themselves when it comes to the abortion debate. They tell the woman she can’t have one. Is this a new form of slavery created by the Republicans and the religious institutions of this country?

    Yes, they did

In his recent news conference, President Barack Obama said, “Nobody accused Mr. Romney of being a felon.”

In July, Stephanie Cutter, the president's deputy campaign spokeswoman, said “Either Mitt Romney, through his own words and signature, was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the Securities Exchange Commission, which is a felony, or he was misrepresenting his position at Bain to the American people.”
